Emily Campbell
Hi! I’m Emily, or Em’s Reading Log.
Reading has become such a big part of my life in the last few years. Growing up I was a complete bookworm but like any typical teenager, at about 15, I discovered social media and completely forgot about reading. I fell utterly in love with reading once again in 2023, at age 23, after listing to two audiobooks with my family that blew me away (A Year In The Wild – James Hendry and Fourth Wing – Rebecca Yarros). It’s been an absolute roller coaster ever since. If you’ve seen me online you might recognise me from my 7 books in 7 days challenge, or spending way too much time buying secondhand books.
I saw the opportunity to become a SAIAA/Local Book Hive ambassador shortly after I attended the 2026 Kingsmead Book Fair, which felt like a sign from the universe. I heard from and learnt about so many amazing South African authors at the book fair and came to the realisation that there are so many amazing local authors out there that I just don’t know about. I personally get my book recommendations online from influencers on Instagram and TikTok and now that I’m slowly building up my own following, I want to use my platform to share our local indie authors far and wide, and give them the recognition they deserve.
